Hello! Shanda and I are part of the Frenzied SLPs and we are back after a summer break to talk about the best thing that we have learned over the summer. What is that? Well, that life is short and we must continue to strive to make the most of it! We have to take the time to recharge our batteries by getting away from work to spend one-on-one quality time with our families and that is the most important thing that we can do to assure that we don’t get burned out as therapists, mothers and writers. Why are we saying this? Well, very sadly two weeks ago, Shanda’s father-in-law passed away. The death was mostly unexpected and definitely tragic. He was a wonderful man who always had a kind word to say to others because he was a genuinely caring and inspirational person. He liked to joke and was hardly without a smile on his face. Mr. Gaunt was a wonderful person who excelled at being a good father, husband, father-in-law, a friend to many, and the best type of grandfather there is to his three grandchildren. He will be missed so much. It is with this sad event that we have been reminded that life is way too short! Cherish your life and the lives of the family members that share it with you. Just be together as much as you can! One doesn’t ever know when that cherished time will end. Yes, life can be way too short.
So, are you getting the chance to see some new things, experience some different events and to just plain ole’ be with your loved ones this summer? We hope so! Summer is a great time to recharge your batteries and supercharge your family relationships by being together. We have always believed in the importance of “getting away” and have both been on a lot of fun vacations from Europe, to Hawaii and many places between, but this year it seemed even more important as we had both grown a bit worn out from our busy lives and because of Mr. Gaunt’s tragic death. In fact, Manda just returned from a wonderful road trip with her husband and two boys. They traveled from Minneapolis to the Black Hills of South Dakota, to the beautiful mountains of Colorado and back. They noticed how the time together as a family strengthened their family bonds and how all of the laughter and times shared along the road warmed their hearts. The places that they saw were sometimes so beautiful to see that it took their breath away. Some of the places that they visited were full of so much interesting history and facts that it filled their brains too! And some of the times just spent swimming, hiking and eating in new restaurants just filled them with joy and relaxation.
Get away with your family everyone and enjoy the time that you have with them. It is the best thing that you can do during your time away from your busy school and work schedules in order to recharge your batteries and to solidify family relationships in a fun and loving way!
We will end by posting some of Manda’s family vacation photos. We hope you enjoy them and also enjoy the end to your summer. Best of luck as you enter into another school year with your own re-charged lives!
