Hello and welcome to Twin Speech, Language & Literacy LLC and to our latest linky party with Speech-Language Pathologist bloggers and also the terrific Frenzied SLP Facebook group! Each month, the Frenzied SLPs are hosting two educational linky parties to make your life as a busy SLP better and more prepared for therapy sessions. Our linky parties are designed to help out your life! This month, the topic is about how to motivate those speech therapy students that have been faithfully coming to speech therapy for several years and who may be becoming a bit burned out on the traditional therapy tasks. We are talking about the middle school speech therapy crowd! Middle school students still often have speech and language goals that need to be targeted and have established school IEP plans but, we have found that some of them have become a bit tired, bored and plain ole’ not happy about coming to therapy anymore.
So, how do we help prevent those attitudes from happening? And how do we keep these students engaged and even having a bit of fun while they are learning? Well, we wondered just that, so we started our own brainstorming and even interviewed some of the middle school students that we know and as a result, came up with some helpful lists for you to have! Just take the lists and go! That’s the idea of the helpful Frenzied SLP linky parties. Helpful information that you can quickly access and apply to your own therapy rooms the very next day! So, just click on the pictures provided to get more information about each product and app and – there you go! Easy peasy!
One list will provide you with some of the most fun and and helpful board games that many middle school students like to play. Use these games while you are targeting a therapy goal.
The second list is a list of apps that we have been told by middle schoolers that are fun to play and that are new and cool! This list is a good one to be used in order to motivate your student to keep working hard during the therapy session so that they can in the end be rewarded with the ability to play a fun app game. Can we say bribe? Um, maybe… (but in our defense they do work!) How can’t a five minute fun time not be OK if they have spent the whole rest of the time with you working their brains hard!
The third list is about speech and language apps that we have used ourselves with past middle schoolers and that we have found to be helpful for targeting their goals. Technology is a great therapy tool to be used with middle schoolers and this list is a friendly reminder that there’s a ton of language based apps out there and many of them track data for you!
We hope these lists help to motivate even your most burned out middle school student! Thank you for stopping by to read our latest post and we hope that if you are a SLP blogger that you come and enjoy this linky party. Just link up below! Thanks a bunch, Manda & Shanda
