Hello! Shanda and I are very happy to be back this month to post during this Gobble Up Holiday Goodies Linky Party with our sweet and inspiring SLP friends, The Frenzied SLPs!
One of our favorite holidays is coming up this week, Thanksgiving! We love Thanksgiving because it is a wonderful holiday for coming together as a family. It also gives us the chance to reflect on the past year and most importantly, to give thanks for all that we have!
What are you most thankful for this year? For us, it is our families, friends, homes, good health and our chosen field of speech language pathology!
We asked this question to our students and they were then encouraged to write out their answers on a big turkey feather (that we cut out on colored paper). That same feather was also decorated by many with stickers and pictures and then placed somewhere around our BIG turkey. This turkey is great and we have brought it out for several years now. The kids love to see how the turkey grows more feathers each day and they enjoy reading everyone else’s comments on what they are thankful for. It is a fun speech therapy task that gets our students thinking, writing, reading and talking. We are thankful for our BIG TURKEY ACTIVITY!
How cute is the one that reads, “Thankful for Spiderman.” 🙂
We obtained this activity from Oriental Trading Company. It sells for $9.55 and can be found by clicking HERE. Also, another option could be to buy a turkey decoration from a Dollar or Craft Store and use that instead. Another suggestion would be to copy, cut and paste this public domain clip art picture of a turkey from Clkr.com onto a piece of paper and then to cut out colored paper feathers to be put around it.
Are you still looking for some Thanksgiving materials? We do have several Thanksgiving-themed documents that would help to fill the therapy time before Thanksgiving break this week. Check them out here!
1) The first document in this bundle is our 119 page Bountiful unit. It will keep your prek-2 to third grade students busy with a lot of fun receptive and expressive language, verbal expression and literacy activities for the whole month of November! The unit is regularly priced at $10.00
2) The second document in this bundle is a terrific unit to be used with your students that need to work on increasing their social skills. It covers the important topic of table manners. This is a wonderful review to do before the big Thanksgiving dinner! It is 33 pages and is regularly priced at $5.50.
3) The third Thanksgiving-themed document in this bountiful bundle is our Thanksgiving Articulation document. This is a fun 109 page document that is regularly priced at $7.00. It features sound practice for the initial, medial and final position of words for the sound targets of /TH/, /G/, /K/, and /V/. We also provide activities targeting phrase and sentence level productions for the initial words of the /TH/, /G/, /K/ and /V/. All of these sounds are common goals for many articulation kiddos and are difficult for many children to say. Plus, they all happen to be in the tricky word of “Thanksgiving.” That is why we know that we will use this packet a lot in the next few weeks at our speech clinic leading up to Thanksgiving and are so happy that it is ready for us to share with others too!

Thank you and we wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!
