Hello Blog Hoppers.
Welcome to another awesome blog hop hosted by the friendly Frenzied SLP group. This blog hop is all about obtaining some super cute, useful and FREE products with a love/heart theme for working on the topic of kindness and good manners with your students.
Twin Speech is participating in this hop because we feel that is very important to spread kindness to other people and animals, and that it is our job as parents and speech-language pathologists to help to teach and to reinforce kind behaviors. We truly believe that a little bit of kindness can go a long way in helping to make the world a better place to live.
Recently, Manda had the sad task of needing to go through her mother-in-law’s belongings. Her mother-in-law, Jo Anne, had passed away on December 1, 2016 after a courageous 12 year battle with cancer. As she was going through her paperwork, she came across a large bundle of cards and letters. Imagine her surprise when she realized that they were all of the actual envelopes, letters and pictures of every single thank you note that her boys and her had ever sent Jo Anne over the last 11 + years! Yes, she had saved every single thank you note for a received birthday or Christmas present, every single picture made from the boy’s crayons and markers, and every single picture that had been taken with her in it holding them during their baptism ceremonies, grandparents luncheons, birthdays etc. She soon realized in a cloud of tears how much those letters that they had sent her over the years must have meant to her. It was a true reminder of how sending something personalized and even a simple message of, “thank you” can be such a kind thing to do for another person and how important it is to teach our children kind behaviors!
Teaching our children to be kind to family members and all people, will help them to feel good about being kind and generous people and it will also help to bring a smile to the heart and face of the receivers of their kindness. ♥
With kindness in mind, Manda and I developed a mini-book that can be used at home or in the therapy room to help to induce discussion of kind behaviors. It is a book that also encourages fine motor development and reading and spelling skill advancement because it has words to read and to trace and cute pictures to color. It is super easy to make! Just have the student color and trace each section, cut out the twelve sections and staple them all together in the upper left hand corner. This will leave the student with a book that can be later read again for reminders of actions that are nice.
