This post is about an on-line marketplace community that Shanda and I hold close to our hearts named Teachers pay Teachers®. It is more commonly referred to as TpT and it is the world’s first online open marketplace where educators can buy, sell and share original materials in downloadable formats.
Recently we were in contact with Emily Schaefer, who is a communications specialist over at TpT. Emily shared some 2016 statistics with us. For instance, were you aware that two out of three teachers have been active on TpT in the last year? How about that there are over 2.7 million educators that are now using TpT? Or, that educator-authors have earned over $200 million dollars since the founding of TpT in 2006 by Paul Edelman, a New York City public school teacher?
Well, it’s all true and that equals a LOT of people are using and benefiting from their relationship with TpT.
Even though these outstanding statistics are true, I think we all still know someone who hasn’t taken the plunge to check out TpT yet.
Yes, some educators are still unsure if they should come visit TpT for materials and if a purchase from the site is worth their hard earned money!
In addition, some are not aware of the significant contributions that speech-language pathologists have made to the site. They may be a busy practicing teacher or therapist with the strong need for inexpensive materials that can be downloaded right away, but they just don’t know if the materials that they will find will be beneficial, or professional enough for their students.
Because of this, Shanda and I decided to talk about all of the wonderful SLPs and some of the hundreds of documents that have been developed by SLPs at our MN State Speech-Language Hearing Association Convention in the spring of 2016. We developed a handout to help trigger a healthy discussion about TpT and the SLPs who are actively contributing to TpT every day!
We also used the handout to help explain to others what TpT was all about and why there’s such a high prevalence of SLPs who are creating, selling and buying awesome assessment and treatment materials every day on TpT. The reason why? Because who better to buy from than the actual person who developed a useful document to target a specific therapy goal, than an actual SLP? Denis Ferremi, SLP, summarized it best by saying, “SLPs should buy at TpT because no one knows what materials SLPs need more than actual, practicing SLPs!” We also love how Mia Reed McDaniel, SLP, put it, “SLPs should visit TpT because they will hit the mother lode of affordable therapy materials, and the new activities will make therapy feel fresh again!”
The later part of the document is a list of over 300 SLP shops. It is titled, “A SLPs on TpT Resource List.”
There are a TON of wonderfully talented and intelligent SLPs who are creating and selling useful documents targeting speech, language and literacy on TpT. Why don’t you click on some of their shop links today by going over to our TpT shop to downlaod this free document today HERE?
Once you download the PDF, you will have hyperlinks and names of some of the most active SLPs on TpT. Check them out! Here’s page 1 of 21!
