LET’S GET FUNCTIONAL!!
We are proud to announce our latest document! This one is a comprehensive treatment packet for helping to increase the understanding of important concepts such as; days of the week, colors, letters, numbers, months, and seasons. It was also designed to increase a student’s ability to communicate their own personal information such as; their full name, address, phone number, family member names and other favorite things about themselves. This packet was designed to be the one “go to” packet for teaching our students how to better understand and then verbally explain and give functional information!! It just may be the most functionally based speech therapy based packet available! We tried hard to include the chance for the student to hear, read, write and say each concept and personal information item in each section of the document. We believe that apraxic students and any student with a verbal delay can and WILL benefit from needing to hear, read, write and then say their targeted goal. Being able to repeat the needed information in their minds and out loud will lead to increased understanding of the targeted subject matter and an increased understanding of the targeted goal will help the student when it comes to needing to verbally say it. Please keep reading for more information on this packet that will be 50% off for the next 24 hours!!!
This brand new posting will be 50% off for the first 24 hours!!
Why this treatment packet was developed:
Apraxic individuals learn best by receiving the maximum amount of cues. They need to “hear” and “see” and “feel” the words. They also need to REPEAT to improve their understanding and ability to coordinate their muscle movements. That is why we feel that a READ, HEAR, WRITE and SAY approach is worthwhile for children with apraxia. The more that they can work on the targeted word, the more likely that their minds will make better planning, sequencing and coordination of the planned muscle movement for the speech production of the word and it will also give their minds a better chance of actually understanding the word or concept. Knowing the word or concept being targeted will in return, make it easier for them to produce it. Familiarity to a concept or word, makes it easier for the child to know what the word is and will even give them a chance to predict the difficulty. This is when their speech techniques of talking louder, sitting up, slowing down, and over-articulation strategies that are taught all throughout the unit will come into play. A student who realizes that a difficult word or concept needs to be said, may predict that they have to utilize all of their learned speech strategies for clear production and if they utilize their strategies, they may just produce the word more clearly and accurately.
Why are we targeting concepts and personal information?
Because knowing these things is teaching better functional skills. Functional skills are important. They provide an individual with essential knowledge that will help them understand and communicate in their home and school environments better. They also help a student communicate more effectively and will help to advance their literacy skills needed for school success! The concepts targeted in this packet are functional and we can’t think of anything more productive than that to teach.
This treatment packet is too long to describe in detail here in the description area. Please go to TpT or TN to download the preview to read the content and direction pages. We included the details for all 167 pages of this unit. Also, please know that the preview also contains a FREE verbal expression pre-test. This test was designed to be given at the start of the treatment program and we also have a similar one for post packet testing. The pre- and post test is a great way to chart a students progress with their ability to say concepts and personal information aloud.
The preview also contains pictures of several of the activities found in this packet.
We truly hope that this packet becomes one that you rely on daily and that it helps a tremendous amount of your students know and say heir concepts and personal information better.
